Unmarked door, entrance through another restaurant, velvet couches and bar stools. Intimate and deliberately cut off from the street outside, which is exactly the point.

You walk into a corner shop and then through the shelving. The most playful of the city's hidden bars, and the least self-serious.

Cosy, low-lit and specifically named by locals as a date night room. The drinks are strong enough that two is a decision, not a default.

Not a venue, a district. Most people do the Stockyards in daylight with a camera; after dark it turns into bars, music and a lot fewer tour groups.

A bar you have to find does half the work of a first date for you. There is a door to look for, a moment of not being sure, and then a room that feels like a small reward. That is three conversations before you have ordered anything.
