A forced choice is easier to answer than "tell me something real about yourself". Nobody freezes when the question is dishes or laundry. That is the whole trick: the choice is the warm-up, and the answer you actually wanted comes from the follow-up.
So play it with one rule. After every pick, ask why. The pick takes a second; the why is where you find out they hate doing the dishes because of a kitchen they grew up in, not because of the dishes.

Start here. These are about the life you already share, and they turn into a real conversation the fastest.

How to play it so it does not fizzle out
Three or four questions a night beats fifty in one sitting. The list above is long so you never run out, not so you get through it.
Answer at the same time instead of taking turns. Hearing the other person first changes your answer, and you both know it.
And keep the ones that surprised you. The question that made you say "wait, really?" is worth more than the twenty that got a shrug.
